Fees and payments
What does Redtix cost?
$0.60 + 3.3% per card order, including GST. There are no set-up fees, no monthly fees and nothing else to pay.
| Stripe's card processing fee (standard Australian cards, a guide only) | $0.30 + 1.65% |
| Redtix software fee | $0.30 + 1.65% |
| Total | $0.60 + 3.3% |
Fees are charged per order, not per ticket, so the fixed 60c applies once however many tickets are in the checkout. Complimentary tickets and cash sales at the gate carry no fees.
Stripe sets its own fee under your agreement with Stripe. International, American Express and some business cards usually cost more, and that difference comes out of your payout.
Do my patrons pay a booking fee on top?
No. The price you set is the full price your patron pays. Both fees come out of that price, never added on top, so the price on your website matches the price at checkout. This keeps you in line with Australia's ban on drip pricing.
For example, one $25.00 ticket: Stripe takes $0.71, Redtix takes $0.71 and you receive $23.58. The calculator on the home page works out any price.
When do I get my ticket money?
Every card payment goes straight into your own Stripe account the moment the sale is made. Redtix never holds your money. Stripe then pays your balance out to your bank on its usual payout schedule, which you can see and change in your Stripe dashboard.
Do I need a Stripe account?
Yes. During sign-up you connect your Stripe account to Redtix, so card payments are made to you, in your name. If you don't have one yet, Stripe lets you create one as part of connecting. Your use of Stripe is under Stripe's own terms.
Will I get an invoice for the Redtix fees?
The Redtix fee is taken automatically from each order, so there's never a bill to pay. It includes GST, and we'll give you a tax invoice for your Redtix fees whenever you ask. Your Stripe dashboard also shows the fee on every payment.
What happens to the fees when I refund someone?
The patron gets back what they paid for the tickets you refund, straight to the card they paid with. The refund comes out of your Stripe balance.
The Redtix fee on the original order isn't returned. Whether Stripe returns its own fee depends on Stripe's terms; at the moment Stripe keeps it.
What about chargebacks and disputes?
Stripe handles disputes under your Stripe agreement and takes any disputed amount from your Stripe account. Redtix doesn't charge you anything for a dispute. If you need evidence, ask us and we'll give you the order and check-in records we hold.
Can I sell tickets if I'm not registered for GST?
Yes. If you're registered, your buyers get a tax invoice showing the GST. If you're not, they get a plain payment receipt that says no GST was charged.
You can switch this any time with the Registered for GST toggle on your admin page. Turning it on asks for your ABN, because a tax invoice has to show it. The change applies from the next order.
Getting set up
How do I sign up?
Go to the sign-up page and:
- Tell us about yourself and your event, and choose an event code (letters and numbers, such as ASR2026). You'll use it to log in.
- Confirm your email address, then read and accept the Redtix terms.
- Connect your Stripe account.
- We check your details and email you your logins, PINs and links.
Ticket sales open once we've approved your event.
How do I put tickets on my website?
Log in to your admin page and open the Website widget tab. Copy the code and paste it into your website where you want people to buy, using your website builder's "HTML embed" or "custom code" block.
The widget is already set up for your event and shows your categories, prices and availability live, so you never need to change it when you edit prices or switch categories on and off.
No website? Email us and we'll sort out a page to sell from.
What equipment do I need at the gate?
Just phones or tablets with a camera and a web browser. There's no app to install and no scanner to hire. Your staff open the scanner or gate sales page, log in with your event code and gate PIN, and they're ready.
- Scanner: redtix.com.au/scanner
- Gate sales: redtix.com.au/gatesales
- Admin page: redtix.com.au/admin
Who should have which PIN?
You get two PINs. The gate PIN is for your scanner and gate sales staff. The admin PIN opens your admin page, where refunds and price changes happen, so keep it to yourself and people you trust.
The first time the admin page is opened on a new device, we also email a 6-digit login code to your event's email address.
You can see or change the gate PIN yourself: on the admin page, find Gate & scanner PIN under Live Switches and tap Show or Change (both ask for your admin PIN). Changing it logs out every scanner and gate sales device, so give your staff the new PIN. To change your admin PIN, email hello@redtix.com.au.
Running your event
What can I do from the admin page?
- Set up to 10 ticket categories, with prices and a limit for each, and switch each one on or off.
- Switch the scanner and gate sales on or off.
- Find any order by name, email or order number, check the payment with Stripe and resend tickets.
- Refund a whole order or just some of its tickets.
- Upgrade, exchange or downgrade a patron's tickets.
- Void tickets, reissue new QR codes (the old ones stop working) and resend tickets to any email address.
- Send free complimentary tickets.
- Create discount codes.
- Email all your patrons, or just some categories.
- Download a printable check-in list and open your log sheet.
Can I change prices after tickets have sold?
Yes. A new price applies to new sales only. Everyone who has already bought keeps the price they paid, and refunds on their order use that price.
How do ticket limits work?
Each category has a limit: the most tickets it can ever issue, complimentary tickets included. When it's reached, the category shows as sold out and sales stop automatically. You can't set a limit below the number of tickets already issued.
How do discount codes work?
Create a code on the Discount codes tab as a percentage or a dollar amount off, for every category or just the ones you tick. Patrons type it into your ticket widget.
- One code per order; if a patron enters another, the last one replaces it.
- A code takes at most 50% off and always leaves at least $1.00 to pay. For free tickets, use complimentary tickets instead.
- Fees come out of what the patron actually pays after the discount.
Can patrons upgrade or swap their tickets?
Yes, if you choose to offer it. From the Change tickets tab you can:
- Exchange tickets for another category at the same price.
- Upgrade: Redtix emails the patron a secure Stripe link to pay the difference. The link and the seats it holds last 23 hours, and their new tickets are sent once they pay.
- Downgrade: you choose to refund none, some or all of the difference.
You can add an optional change fee to any change. The old tickets stop working and the patron gets new ones by email.
Can I sell tickets on the day?
Yes. Switch on Gate sales on your admin page, and your staff can sell from the gate sales page by cash or card. For card, the patron scans a QR code on the staff member's screen and pays on their own phone; the screen turns green when the payment goes through. Cash sales are recorded with no fees.
Gate sales need an internet connection. The scanner doesn't (see below).
What if there's no mobile signal at the venue?
The scanner keeps working. When a staff member logs in, their phone downloads the attendee list, and from then on it checks tickets against that copy and saves each scan on the phone. When signal returns, the scans are sent and the phone picks up any new sales, refunds and voids.
Log the scanners in while you still have signal, ideally before the doors open. If two phones are both offline, each only knows about its own scans until they reconnect.
As a backup, download the Check-in list (PDF) from your admin page and print it before the event.
How do I email my patrons?
Use the Email patrons tab. Your email goes to everyone holding a valid or used ticket, or to just the categories you pick. Patrons are in BCC, so nobody sees anyone else's address, and replies come to your event's email address. Refunded and voided tickets are left out.
Send yourself a test first. Press Send once: big sends carry on by themselves until everyone has it.
Where are my sales records?
Every sale, ticket, refund and change is logged to a Google Sheet for your event. Use Open Log Sheet on your admin page to view it, and download or export it whenever you like. You make all changes from the admin page, so the sheet can't be broken by accident.
What information do you collect from ticket buyers?
First name, surname, suburb, state and postcode, email address and phone number, plus a record of their order and check-in. It's collected for you and you control it. Redtix never sells it and never uses it to market to your patrons. Card details are handled by Stripe; Redtix never sees them.
Who handles patron refunds and complaints?
You do. You're the seller of your tickets, so your refund policy applies and the decision is yours. Redtix gives you the tools to issue refunds, but doesn't decide them. Ticket emails come with your event's email address as the reply-to, so patron questions reach you directly.
Can I stop using Redtix?
Yes. Either of us can end the agreement by email with 14 days' notice. Tickets already sold stay valid, and check-in, refunds and ticket emails keep working for them until your event is over. Ask and we'll send your event's records as a spreadsheet within 14 days, at no charge.
For ticket buyers
Your tickets, payments and changes.
Where are my tickets?
After you pay, you get two emails from noreply@redtix.com.au, sent in the organiser's name:
- Your Ticket Confirmation: your receipt (or tax invoice).
- Tickets: your tickets, with a QR code for each, as PDFs attached.
They usually arrive within a few minutes. If you can't find them, check your spam or junk folder and search for "Tickets:" and the event name.
I still haven't received my tickets.
Contact the event organiser by replying to your confirmation email, or through the event's website. They can look up your order, check the payment and resend your tickets, to a different email address if you typed yours wrong.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No. Show the QR code on your phone at the gate, from the email, the PDF or a screenshot. Printing the PDF works too. Each ticket has its own QR code, so if you bought several, everyone in your group needs theirs.
Can I add my ticket to my phone's wallet?
Your ticket email has an Add to Google Wallet button for each ticket. If the ticket is later refunded, voided or changed, the Wallet pass is expired automatically. On an iPhone, keep the email or PDF handy, or take a screenshot of the QR code.
Can I give my ticket to someone else?
Usually, yes: forward them the ticket. Each QR code gets one person in, so only send it to one person. Check the organiser's terms in case the event has its own rules. If you think your ticket has been copied or shared, ask the organiser to reissue it; the old QR code then stops working.
Is there a booking fee?
No. The price shown is the total you pay. There's no booking, card or service fee added at checkout.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. You pay on Stripe's secure checkout page, and the money goes to the event organiser's own Stripe account. Redtix never sees or stores your card details.
Can I get a refund?
That's up to the event organiser and their refund policy, so please contact them. If they refund you, the money goes back to the card you paid with, and you'll get an email confirming it. Banks usually take a few business days to show it.
Can I change to a different ticket?
Ask the event organiser. If they offer changes, they can move you to another category. For an upgrade you'll get an email with a secure link to pay the difference; it stays open for 23 hours. Your new tickets are emailed to you and the old ones stop working.
I closed the payment page. Was I charged?
Only if you finished paying on the Stripe page. If you did, your tickets will still be emailed to you. If you didn't, nothing was charged and you can start again on the event's ticket page.
Can I buy tickets at the gate?
Only if the organiser is selling at the gate. If they are, you can pay cash or scan a QR code with your phone and pay by card. Check with the organiser first, as some events sell online only. If you're paying by card, you may as well just pay online at the event's ticket sales page!
I need a tax invoice.
If the organiser is registered for GST, your confirmation email is a tax invoice showing the GST. If it says "Payment receipt", the organiser isn't registered for GST and no GST was charged.
